    Managing Partner

    Jeff founded Saturn in 1994 to finance early-stage growth companies. He spearheads our investigation into new areas of investment and is active in managing our portfolio companies. Working closely with entrepreneurs, he helps forge strategic relationships, build management teams, and develop marketing and distribution strategies to enable significant growth.

    Jeff’s experience as an investment banker, entrepreneur and venture capitalist dates back to the early ’90s. Prior to founding Saturn, he was as an analyst and investment banker with Bariston Associates, a Boston firm that originates and manages private investments for individual and institutional clients.

    Jeff is involved with the Sean McDonough Charitable Foundation, Citi Performing Arts Center, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Trinity Church Boston. A Syracuse University alumnus, he also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Committee of the Whitman School of Management.

  • Bob Chicoski

    Partner

    Bob has worked as an investor, entrepreneur and advisor in early- and growth-stage businesses for over 20 years. He focuses on exploring and evaluating new investment opportunities and working with entrepreneurs at our portfolio companies to drive growth and create value.

    Bob has helped build several businesses, including i2i, World Energy Solutions, EPV Solar, Umagination Labs, Speyside Distillers and Tauntr. Prior to joining Saturn in 2010, he was managing director at Junction Investors Ltd., a family office focusing on direct private investments in a variety of sectors and geographies. He has also advised leading organizations such as Pfizer and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Besides serving on the boards of portfolio companies, Bob is an advisory board member of the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research and the Colorado Institute for Drug, Device and Diagnostic Development.

  • William Guttman, Ph.D

    Partner

    Dr. Guttman, who joined Saturn in 2006 and is based in Pittsburgh, has built and advised technology companies since the mid ’90s. Besides actively advising and supporting the entrepreneurs we work with, he investigates new investment opportunities.

    Dr. Guttman is special advisor to the provost of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and executive chairman of Carnegie Innovations, the university’s technology commercialization and holding company. During his tenure as CMU’s Distinguished Service Professor of Economics, he served on the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering’s cybersecurity committee, which advises Congress on federal R&D priorities.

    Earlier in his career, Dr. Guttman cofounded CyLab, one of the largest university-based research initiatives focused on dependability and security in software and networked systems. He has also been instrumental in various university tech transfers; most recently, he cofounded the knowledge capture software company Panopto, whose board he chairs.

    Dr. Guttman has founded, cofounded or held other leadership roles in several dozen institutionally backed ventures. He was chief executive at several of these companies, including Printcafe, a 500-person software developer acquired by Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ: EFII) in 2003. In addition, he has served in advisory capacities for USAID, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the OECD.

  • Edward A. Lafferty

    Partner & Chief Financial Officer

    Ed launched his career in private equity in 1997. Since then, he has participated in all stages of company development, from business plan creation and early-stage financing through IPO. He works closely with our portfolio companies’ management teams, developing growth strategies, arranging financing, recruiting key employees and building relationships with strategic partners, customers and advisors. In addition, he oversees Saturn’s finance and administration activities.

    Prior to joining Saturn in 2001, Ed spent four years as fund controller for private equity firm Berkshire Partners. Earlier in his career, he assisted in the formation, development and management of several companies, including Corporate Performance Systems and Millennium Consulting Group.

    Ed is involved with the LD Woodman Scholarship Fund and a member of the New England Venture Capital Association, Financial Executives Alliance, Treasurers’ Club of Boston, Private Equity CFO Association and Bentley University Executive Club.

  • William F. Coffield

    Associate

    A member of the Saturn team since 2011, Will identifies new areas for investment and innovative technology companies for potential addition to our portfolio. He also helps with pre-investment due diligence and the development of the companies we work with. Outside of his investment responsibilities, he works on broadening our relationship with the entrepreneurial community and assists with investor relations.

    Previously, Will was a summer analyst with Oxford Finance, a financial services firm providing capital to early-stage life science and healthcare services companies. He worked on the firm’s business development team and was responsible for identifying new areas for Oxford to deploy capital.

    Will serves on the board of directors of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, which is comprised of technologists, entrepreneurs and investors who support startup organizations and growing companies in the Boston innovation economy.

  • Liz McGraw

    Executive Assistant

    Liz joined Saturn Partners in 2013 and provides administrative support to our CFO. In addition to maintaining our investor database, she assists with the distribution of quarterly financial statements, capital account statements and other related correspondence. She also assists in the day-to-day operations of the office.

    Before starting her career at Saturn, Liz worked at HarbourVest Partners in the Human Resources Department.
